Mary Ellen Lighthiser
Dedicated and tenacious, Mary Ellen’s unique legal experiences and education make her a skilled attorney who is eager to fight for justice for her clients. While in law school, Mary Ellen was frequently recognized for her excellence in legal writing, research, and analysis, earning a number of awards for high achievement in her classes, serving as an executive board member of the Law Review, and graduating magna cum laude. Through her involvement with the HeLP Legal Services Clinic, she fought to obtain SSI disability benefits for children of low-income families who were receiving treatment at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She also completed an externship at the Georgia Court of Appeals, where she gained valuable insight into the skills and strategies that earn success in the state judiciary. Following law school, Mary Ellen represented insurance companies and municipalities in policy coverage and civil rights disputes, affording her a special understanding of defendants’ motivations and defenses.
Mary Ellen grew up in Cartersville Georgia. She, her husband, and their son now live in Atlanta and are members of Northside United Methodist Church.
